Jessamine Students Attend Leadership Conference

Three Jessamine County students recently participated in a Youth Ambassador Leadership Conference.

Kristen Bailey, Nathan Janzow, Matthew Mitchem and Mary Shryock served as ambassadors for their schools and heard from leaders from across the state.

The event, hosted by Congressman Andy Barr, was held Feb. 26 at the University of Kentucky’s Gatton College of Business and Economics.

“This was an incredible event with students from the Sixth District Youth Ambassador Program. These high school students are the next generation of leaders for our Commonwealth and our country,” Barr said. “I appreciate their willingness to engage with some of our community’s best leaders from so many different industries. I want to thank the Gatton College of Business and Economics at the University of Kentucky for hosting our event and a special thanks to all of our guest speakers who participated.”

Guest speakers at the event included Jon Oldham, Resident Agent at U.S. Secret Service based in Washington D.C.; Robert (Bob) L. Quick, president and CEO of Commerce Lexington Inc.; Adam Hinton, vice president of Hinton Mills, director of Kentucky Welding Institute; Josh Taylor, assistant director for the UK Graham Office of Career Management; Judge Melissa Moore Murphy, 4th Division, 22nd Judicial District, Fayette County Judge ; Jason Wells, Lexington Fire Department chief; and Lt. Col. Jason Halligan, Battalion Commander, 498th Civil Affairs Battalion.
