The Jessamine County Board of Adjustments approved multiple conditional use permits and dimensional variances for Jessamine County residents and businesses at its meeting earlier this month.

A conditional use permit was approved for Anthony Turner on 106 Rowling Acres for a home business that requires a federal firearms license and any clients would be by appointment only.

A conditional use permit was approved for one year for TNL Landholdings LLC at Bell Place Subdivision unit 1 lot 111 to operate a small animal clinic or hospital. According to the permit applicants, Brett Construction Company has been hired and will begin groundbreaking for the animal clinic this month.

A dimensional variance request was approved for 100 Bethel Harvest Drive. John W. Clark Oil Company, Inc from Ashland, Kentucky is the owning entity of Clark’s Pump-n-Shop. This variance requests the board of Adjustments to allow two wall-mounted signs on the face of the principal gas station building. They will be signs advertising chicken and pizza.

A dimensional variance was approved for a family on a residential property on Tower Drive. The couple requested an allowance for a privacy fence because of safety concerns in their neighborhood.

“Prior to submitting all of this, we were having a ton of safety concerns. One of them being Lake Mingo has an access hole through the fence line- and we have kids coming all the time through our front yard, back yard. We also have tons of drug activity at the end of Sparks Avenue all the time. There’s extremely unusual traffic coming in on Friday nights. We have seen through our camera sheriffs crawling through our yard at one in the morning cause they’re looking for someone, and we have found blood on our back porch,” Alex Leskiv said.

A motion by the Board of Adjustments approved an 8-foot privacy fence to be placed along the rear of the Leskivs’ property line, as well as a 6-foot privacy fence to be placed five feet from the sidewalk. Another motion approved a shed to be placed approximately five feet from inside the sidewalk along Sparks Drive, unattached to the fence.

Lastly, the board approved a dimensional variance for Allen Dean on Kenton Court to build an attached garage for his vintage car workshop, woodworking, and storage that will exceed 650 square feet.
