Marcia Stevens Murphy, 74, of Wilmore, KY passed away on January 12, 2024. Marcia was born in Bartlesville, Oklahoma on June 28, 1949, to William J. and Piccola Stevens. Marcia graduated from the class of ’67 at Westport High School in Louisville, KY and graduated from the University of Kentucky in 1971 with a double major in math and computer science followed up later with a master’s in education. Marcia began her 10 year career at IBM as one of the first women program analysts. Marcia found her chosen career as a teacher in math and computer science at both Jessamine East and West Jessamine. She loved her students and proudly encouraged them to create award-winning movies. She was highly respected by her students and faculty. Marcia often stayed after school to manage a computer science lab for the students. Marcia and David enjoyed their community of Wilmore, KY and during the years of David’s town dental practice, they would recruit friends to help with the annual ‘Christmas in Wilmore’ while giving back to the community. They loved their home on Lake Cumberland in the last years and invited friends and family to enjoy boating and holidays there. Marcia loved to travel to exciting places abroad to learn about other cultures until her health prevented it. Marcia was a member of St. Luke Church in Lexington, KY. Her faith was everything to her. She is survived by her husband, David Murphy of Wilmore; Marcia’s daughter and daughter-in-law of Nicholasville, and loving grandchildren; brother, Gary Stevens of Louisville (Patrice), niece Julie Minnic (Josh), nephew Gregory Stevens (Sarah), niece Holly Orcutts (Benji), nephews David Bibbs (Lori) and Brian Bibbs (Kristen) and loving great nieces and nephews. Marcia enjoyed a strong connection with her family roots and maintained a relationship with her cousin, Jackie Nelson of Somerset. Marcia’s memorial service will be held on Friday, January 26th, at Morris & Hislope Funeral Home, 5900 U.S. 27 in Science Hill, KY (visitation: 11am-1:00; service at 1pm followed by burial at Poplar Grove Cemetery in Brodhead, KY).
