TODAY

Wesley Village at 1125 Lexington Rd. in Wilmore will host Movie Night: “La La Land” (2016, 128 mins., PG-13) at 6 p.m. In the style of a classic Hollywood musical, this romantic comedy-drama set to song and dance won six Oscars including those for best director, actress and original score. Starring Emma Stone as an aspiring actress and Ryan Gosling as a struggling jazz pianist. Free and open to the public.

Nicholasville Elementary’s Site Based Decision Council will meet at 12:15 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 12, October 17, November 14, December 12, January 16, February 13, March 13, April 10, May 15 and June 12 in the Nicholasville Elementary School Library.

Wilmore TOPS (Taking Off Pounds Sensibly) weight-loss support group meets Thursdays in the community room at Jessamine Village, at the end of South Maple Street in Wilmore. New members are welcome. Contact Eva Jacobs at 859-858-3456.

— The meetings of the Jessamine County Democratic Executive Committee will be held on the third Thursday of each month from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the Jessamine County Democratic Headquarters at 219 N. — The Wilmore Family Center will host Night Owls Time! every Thursday at 6:15 p.m. Working families have a playgroup with topics and presentations geared toward your busy lifestyle needs. Bring takeout or brown bag and kids of all ages. The Family Center is located on 334 E. Main in Wilmore. Donations are suggested. Doors open early so that you can bring your supper.

SATURDAY

— The Wilmore Family Center will host a Navigating Kentucky’s Managed Care from 10 to 10:30 a.m. at 334 E Main in Wilmore. Join Miranda from the Kentucky Equal Justice Center as she shares a 30-minute mini-workshop on the Kentucky Managed Care System. Miranda is also an application assister and can help you sign up for Medicaid or the Exchange.

— On Saturday, Oct. 14, the Kentucky Reptile Zoo Halloween Ssssspooktacular from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Kentucky Reptile Zoo, located at 200 L&E Railroad Place in Slade. Tours, crafts, games and reptiles from all over the world will be featured! The cost is $10 general admission or $8 in costume or with event flyer. — The Wilmore Farmers Market opens from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday at the Wilmore City Hall parking lot in downtown Wilmore through October.

— The Bluegrass Ironmen, a nonprofit Men’s Ministry meets every Saturday morning at 203 Oak Street (behind CVS Pharmacy) in Nicholasville for a hot breakfast. The breakfast cost is $3 during the summer and the regular cost during fall and spring is $5, and if it is your first time it is free. Those who would like to come and cannot afford the cost it is free also. We have a speaker that usually takes about a half an hour and then we have table discussions on the speaker’s topic.

— On the second Saturday of every month, the Wilmore Family Center will host Bellies and Beyond: Birth Plans at 10 a.m. The program will help mothers with pregnancy and the first year. This month, join Chante Perryman of Baby Dreams Maternity Concierge and devise a plan according to your wishes and needs. As a certified doula and mother, she has a wealth of experience and knowledge in all kinds of births. Donation suggested.

SUNDAY

— On Sunday, Oct. 15, A Walk to Remember: Pregnancy Loss Remembrance and Awareness will be held in Wilmore. It will commence at 3:30 p.m. on the Wilmore Downtown Green. It will be led by Central Baptist’s Perinatal Bereavement Nurse, Debbie Mueller. Walkers will be a sign of solidarity in grief and to help create awareness. The event will end with a time of sharing of names of babies to be remembered and a balloon release. Feel free to attend as support persons and others who wish to remember.

MONDAY

— Culver’s in Nicholasville, located at 961 N. Main St. is sponsoring a fundraiser for Anchor Baptist Church’s Operation Christmas Child ministry on Monday, October 16 from 5 to 8 p.m. A percentage of sales will be given to Anchor to use toward the shipping cost of the shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child, a project of Samaritan’s Purse. Information about Operation Christmas Child and shoeboxes will be available for people who are interested in packing shoeboxes for needy children around the world. Last year, the shoeboxes from Anchor went to India, South Sudan, Uganda and Ghana.

— The Jessamine County Farmers Market will be from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. from July 3 to October 23 at the Jessamine County Senior Citizen Center in the parking lot located at Hover Drive in Nicholasville.

— The Jessamine County Fire District Board of Trustees will meet at 4:30 p.m. on the second Monday of each month at the Jessamine County Fire District Station 1 located at 1310 S. Main Street in Nicholasville.

— The Wilmore Family Center will host Preschool Time!, a skill-based play group helping families engage in a little edu-fun every Monday at 9:30 a.m. Our morning morning meeting allows parents to help their children (ages 3 to 6) with early literacy, math, and science both gross and fine motor skills. Giving them ideas to try at home. Free for members, but $3 donation per family suggested.

— The Wilmore Family Center will host Crunch Time! Lunch and Learn at 11 a.m. Join other natural parents like you, looking for advice and support for sleep patterns where attachment is valued. Parents of newborns, toddlers, and preschoolers welcome. Free for members, but suggested $3 donation suggested per family.

TUESDAY

Wesley Village at 1125 Lexington Rd. in Wilmore will host Village Vespers at 1:15 p.m. Join Lexington Centenary United Methodist Pastor Tom Grieb and hear his message of hope and encouragement. Free and open to the public.

— The Nicholasville Toastmasters meet from 7 to 8 p.m. on each Tuesday at the Jessamine County Public Library. Master the art of public speaking. Nicholasville Toastmasters is a diverse group of individuals dedicated to supporting members in becoming a confident speaker and leader.

Al-Anon’s Saturday morning meetings in Nicholasville are now cancelled. A new Al-Anon meeting using the same Al-Anon 12-Step program will be hosted in Wilmore at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesdays each week at the Wilmore United Methodist Church located at 209 E. Main Street, in Wilmore. Al-Anon meetings are for those troubled by another’s alcohol use, or substance abuse. — The Wilmore Senior Community Center hosts scrapbooking with Sharon Campbell every Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.

Jessamine County Piece Quilters will meet from 9 to 11 a.m. on the first and third Tuesday for the months of June, July and August at Nicholasville Christian Church. — The Wilmore Senior Community Center will host Scrapbooking with Sharon Campbell at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesdays.

WEDNESDAY

Wesley Village at 1125 Lexington Rd. in Wilmore will host An Afternoon Tea and Reading with Dr. John Oswalt at 3 p.m. This distinguished Asbury Seminary Professor returns to present passages from his favorite books and short stories. Tea and cookies will follow in the Encore Café. Free and open to the public but seating is limited. Please sign up in the Community Center Library or call Alan at 858-3865 ext. 238.

— The Wilmore Family Center will host Play Time! at 10 a.m. A playgroup for all types of caregivers, all ages of kids, and all kinds of fun! Each month is a new theme for the play area and October is Oceans. Feel free to bring friends!

— The Wilmore Senior Community Center will host Flex Exercise with Aureol at 11 a.m. on Mondays Wednesdays and Fridays.

UPCOMING EVENTS 

— The First Vineyard at 5800 Sugar Creek Pike in Nicholasville will host a concert by singer-songwriter Kristen Ford on Friday, Oct. 20 from 5:30 to 8:30. Admission is free, and everyone is welcome to bring a picnic dinner, snacks, sodas or water.

–– The Kentucky Modelers are having their annual Model Car Show and Swap Meet on Saturday, Oct. 28 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the blue building at City County Park in Nicholasville.
