The Family Center, located at 334 E. Main St. in Wilmore, became the latest business in the county to cut the Chamber of Commerce’s red ribbon of membership.

The Family Center is a 501(c)3 organization designed to promote education and assistance to area families of a variety of make-ups. The goal of the organization, according to owner/operator Tara Hall, is to “create a healthy community with connections to local agencies, organizations and individuals utilizing the rich resources already available while equipping families with the ability to share with their neighbors and friends.”

“The Family Center actually started as just a play group of moms who just had some common things that we wanted to learn from each other about three years ago,” Hall said at the ribbon-cutting event. “In two years, we were in four different places.”

In June of last year, the group had formalized enough with a focused vision to move into the Main Street storefront that has become The Family Center.

Hall and her staff believe that the Family Center can best address the needs of the community they serve through five areas of focus: parent education, child enrichment, meaningful family experiences, connection with others and hospitality in Downtown Wilmore.
