Jessamine County’s number of coronavirus cases continues to climb, with two new cases added in the last two days.

The Jessamine County Health Department announced four new cases since Friday, including one juvenile, one new case Monday and another Tuesday, bringing the county’s total count to 56 cases. According to the Health Department, only six of those cases are considered active; the rest are listed as recovered. One patient is in the hospital while the rest are being monitored by health department officials at home.

The department continues to offer free COVID-19 testing to those who qualify by exhibiting symptoms. According to the department’s latest information, 1,254 people have been tested at the health department. Only 15 people, or 1.3 percent of tests, were positive. Another 72 cases are listed as pending, with the rest being negative.

Two people tested positive in the last two weeks in Jessamine County, according to the department.

The department continues to offer free testing for those who qualify by having one of the symptoms: a fever of more than 100 degrees, a dry cough, shortness of breath or diarrhea, he said.

To schedule testing, people must complete an online screening tool on the Health Department’s website or by phone. The department will schedule an appointment for the test itself.
