The Nicholasville City Commission passed ordinances, approved employment changes, and informed residents of an upcoming water main flushing program during its latest meeting.

First, the notice:

The city of Nicholasville’s water department will conduct a routine water main flushing program from April 8- 12, 2024. 

The main flushing program is conducted in the spring and fall to clean the distribution system of any sedimentation that may have built up in the mains. Some residents may experience a slight discoloration of water and/or a short period of low water pressure. The water department reassures customers that the water is safe to drink. Customers should allow their water to run for a few minutes to clear up any discoloration that may occur. 

It is not advisable to wash clothes while the water is discolored because of the possibility of staining. The water main flushing is part of the city of Nicholasville’s program to provide its customers with the best possible water service. If you have any questions, please call (859) 885-1121. 

Here are the items for consideration approved by the commission:

• Request to authorize the Mayor to sign Municipal Order 2024-009, a municipal order amending the city of Nicholasville’s Personnel Policies and Procedures, Compensation Plan, and Classification plan. This approved Municipal Order allows firefighters to use two years of experience from a different county in congruence with two years working for Nicholasville Fire to be eligible to apply for a lieutenant role.
• The following police officer recruits were approved to move up to police officers: Lucas Atterberry, Austin Boyd, Kaitlyn Lloyd and Braddock Clark.
• Samatha Potter was approved as the new Police Victim’s Advocate. 
• Due to completing certifications, the rate changes were approved for Cody Coldiron and Rocky Smallwood at $23.33/hr.
• Matthew Leeser was approved to proceed to senior plant operator at the Wastewater Treatment Plant.

Ordinance 148-2024

An ordinance amending the official zoning map for the city of Nicholasville from R-2 (two family residential district) to R-1T (Townhouse residential district_ for approximately 0.507 acres of property located at 404 & 406 Richmond Avenue (PVA Parcel #058-30-14-001- .08).

 

Ordinance 149-2024

An ordinance amending the official zoning map for the city of Nicholasville from R-3 (Multifamily residential district) to I-1 (Light industrial district) for approximately 1.81 acres and from B-2 (Highway business district) to I-1 (Light industrial district) for approximately 2.72 acres of property located at 750 Richmond Avenue (PVA Parcel #007-00-00-013.00). 

Ordinance 150-2024

An ordinance prohibiting all cannabis business operations in the city of Nicholasville.

No changes from first reading. “It doesn’t close the door for it, it just gives us time to catch up to the changing laws before we allow it in our community,” said Planning and Zoning Director Tim Cross.

 

Ordinance 151-2024 

An ordinance establishing a decree of annexation of 41.90 acres of real property situated at the corner of Keene Road and the US 27 West Bypass into the city of Nicholasville, Kentucky.
