According to a Lexington Fayette Urban County Government news release, residents within Fayette and Jessamine counties are invited to review and offer input on the region’s 2050 Metropolitan Transportation Plan (MTP).

This long-range plan will guide the development of regional transportation projects and services and how federal highway and public transportation dollars will be utilized over the next 25 years.

According to Lexington’s Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO), The MTP helps the Planning Organization determine how we can best improve mobility, safety, and access for everyone – in whatever way they choose to move around our community.

“The World has changed in a significant way since 2020, and how many of us will get from point A to point B in the future will also change. This plan is important to identify the changes our community desires by the year 2050…public feedback is essential to adequately understand that,” said Chris Evilia with the Lexington Area MPO. “The draft plan identifies the region’s long-term transportation goals and proposed priorities through 2050 based on what we’ve previously heard from our residents. We would like residents to review the plan recommendations and let us know their thoughts on what’s being proposed.”

To collect public input for the draft MTP, the MPO will hold six open-house listening sessions for the public to review the plan and talk with MPO planners. Two of those listening sessions will be in Jessamine County at the Jessamine County Public Library. The draft 2050 plan is also available at lexareampo.org under “studies and plans” for the public to review and offer online comments.

Additionally, people can direct questions and offer comments about the plan to the MPO by contacting the staff at lexareampo@lexingtonky.gov or (859) 258-3160. The MPO will accept comments regarding the draft MTP through Monday, April 15, 2024.
