The Nicholasville City Commission had a full agenda at its latest meeting.

The meeting started with the honoring of Colonel Tracy Lucas, the commander of the Camp Nelson Honor Guard. Lucas ensures each veteran buried at Camp Nelson National Cemetery is sent to rest with honor and respect. Lucas was given a key to the city and a certificate for his dedication and service.

The commission approved a request to ratify the mayor’s signature on lien releases for 102 Rarrick Avenue. It also approved an item awarding a bid for public safety uniforms for public safety workers, police officers and firefighters.

In big news, the commission approved requests for the mayor to sign two resolutions relating to the updated pathway in the East and West Jessamine High sidewalk projects. Director of Planning and Zoning Tim Cross presented these requests to the council and has already discussed this project with the Journal last August. Cross said right now, the plan is in the right-away phase and that the project will soon be moving into the utility relocation phase before starting construction. Cross received approval from the commission in this meeting to start the utility relocation phase.

The West High part of the project will still include the traffic signal that so many in the county have been asking commission members about.

In other news, the commission approved multiple new employees and transfers:

  • Request to approve effective date of seasonal auxiliary police officer in the police department for Barry Walter effective from March 5, 2024 to April 2, 2024.
  • Request to approve Amber Thom’s transfer from Administrative Utility CSR2 to Administrative General Bookkeeper I effective March 19, 2024.
  • Request to approve progression of operator I in the water distribution department for Ashley Blane Bowman for finishing certification completion.
  • Request to approve lateral transfer of Corey Privett to Police Detective.
