Registration for a resource fair in Jessamine County is open with limited spots available.

Nicholasville nonprofit organization Chosen Outreach is hosting the resource fair. It’s being hosted at the Jessamine County Public Library in meeting rooms three and four on Saturday, Feb. 24, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Chosen Outreach is a Black woman-owned nonprofit in Nicholasville founded and directed by nine-year resident Fredrica Russell.

Friday, Feb. 23, is the one-year nonprofit anniversary of the organization. The resource fair will be a time to celebrate this anniversary and get much-needed information and necessities out to community members.

Russell said that light refreshments will be available and several vendors from Lexington and Louisville will have free goodies in tow. Some of the vendors include Wellcare, the Jessamine County Health Department, Exhilarate Inc., Women’s Empowerment and an adoption agency.

Chosen Outreach also has two drives going on right now, including a diaper drive and a toiletry drive. Russell said necessities from these drives will be available at the resource fair for anyone who needs them.

“Most people go to Lexington, Danville, and other surrounding counties to get things they need. But here we are, a nice growing community.. We need this here,” Russell said. Although she admits there are a lot of resources available in Jessamine County, like recovery facilities, people are still in need, especially parents.

“So what we’re doing is we want to break the trajectory of parents– and I don’t want to say single mothers because there are single fathers too– that are raising children and having a hard time getting the things they need like diapers, baby wipes, food, baby food, formula. We’re taking donations for those things right now and it probably won’t stop because Nicholasville doesn’t have this and we need this. We need it in this community.”

Russell said that many donations have come from the community, but that she and her board of directors still takes from their own pockets to support these drives.

Chosen Outreach is always in need of donations for the toiletry and diaper drives. Russell also said volunteers are needed for the resource fair and other events.
