The Annual Rotary Club Pancake Breakfast is a tradition nearly as old as the Nicholasville Rotary Club itself. 

This year’s breakfast will be held on Saturday, Feb. 24 from 7 to 10 a.m. at St. Luke Catholic Church on South Main Street. Tickets are $5 a person, and the door for all-you-can-eat sausage, coffee, pancakes and juice. 

Rotary Club President Morgan Murray said this breakfast is held in order to “raise funds for our scholarship program. For many years, we have been able to offer scholarships to local high school seniors to show support for their good works and leadership in Jessamine County.” 

According to Murray, Rotary International’s mission has a wide breadth of services. 

“I would say its focus is philanthropy. But inside of the club, though, you have the autonomy to choose where you want to focus your energy, and so education has been our focus for many years. Over the existence of the Rotary Club, I know that we have donated over $100,000 in scholarships to local high school students. So this pancake breakfast is really a big part of doing that,” she said

The Journal will report more information on the scholarship once the pancake breakfast passes. Students can still apply for a scholarship if they’re not attending a traditional two to four-year college. Even students interested in going to esthetician or cosmetology school can apply. 

Although the pancake breakfast does a lot in terms of raising money for the scholarships, contributions from local businesses is what keeps the scholarship funded every year. 

Levels of support for businesses and individuals interested is as follows:

• GOLD: $500
• SILVER: $250
• BRONZE: $100
• INDIVIDUAL: $50

The Rotary Club will be taking cash and check donations at the breakfast. Anyone who would like to donate can also mail a check to Treasurer Tom Herndon at 3440 Rabbits Foot Trail, Lexington, Ky 40503.

The Nicholasville Rotary Club was launched in 1935 and sponsored by the Lexington Rotary Club. The club meets every Monday from 12 to 1 p.m. in the upstairs community room at Central Bank at 301 North Main Street. 

Every Monday, the Rotary Club has lunch and hears from guest speakers. “You just come in for 20 minutes and have a social time and you get to learn about different things going on,” Murray said. “Outside of the service, our tagline or motto is service above self, so that is truly the core of why we exist is to better the communities that we live, work, and play in, but I think from an internal perspective for me it has been the easiest way to get exposure to every sector of the community and in the most passive way possible to be honest.”
