According to Doug Fain, who is one of the directors and producers in the KCAL radio troupe, there are currently about 60-80 students experiencing homelessness who are part of the program mentioned above. Some students stay in their cars, and some need to couch-hop with friends for a warm place to sleep.

According to Shaniey Marcus, director of the program, the funds that the Homeless Education Program receives from the school system can only pay for these student’s education, which leaves out everything necessary in one’s life to be able to pursue education, like toiletries and other daily necessities.

The donations from the event are treated like an emergency fund, where Marcus can use money at any time one of the students in her program has a need not directly related to education.

Thanks to the gospel show in years past, Fain was once able to help a student replace a flat tire so that she could make it to school.

If you are unable to attend the event, you may still donate to the Jessamine County Schools’ Homeless Education Program for the kids by mailing a check to KCAL with the memo line Homeless Program. Mail the check to Doug Fain, 2341 Union Mill Road, Nicholasville, Ky. 40356. Or, you can Venmo Doug Fain’s directly and he’ll add your Venmo donation to the collection plate on Friday Night. His Venmo is @Doug-Fain.

“Thank you so much for your help for our homeless school children!” Fain said.
