Paul Michael Dowdy, 79, passed away Friday, November 10, 2023, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Lexington, Kentucky. He was born in Detroit, Michigan, on August 30, 1944, to the late Jones Coy Dowdy and Frances Hamel Dowdy. For many years, Paul regularly helped organize the Jessamine Jamboree and was a member of the Jessamine County Fair Board and the Lions Club. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed spending his time out camping. He had also worked at Lowes for several years and was a veteran of the US Army. He is survived by his son, Chris Dowdy (Brooke); brothers, Mark Dowdy, Martin Dowdy, and Michael Dowdy; sister, Gail Seeling; grandchildren, Brayden Gray, and Arabella Gray; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his son, Paul Michael Dowdy, Jr.; sisters, Janice Dowdy, and Claire Murphy; and grandchildren, Hunter Dowdy, and Logan Dowdy. Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, November 15, 2023, at St. Luke Catholic Church with Father Aldrin officiating. Visitation will be held the evening prior, from 4:00 – 8:00 PM, Tuesday, at Betts & West Funeral Home. Burial will follow at a later date at Madison Memorial Gardens. The family wishes to extend a special thanks to the VA Hospital staff, the Fischer House staff, and Bluegrass Hospice for the care they provided Paul.
