Halloween is on the way, and with it comes the annual Spooky Time celebration on Main Street, Nicholasville.

The city’s annual trick-or-treat event is organized by Visit Jessamine.

Candy, costumes, games, and even two thriller shows will fill the night with family fun.

“It’s a very fun event for the community as well as anybody else who wants to come,” said Visit Jessamine executive director Charla Reed.

The event is on Tuesday, Oct. 31, from 6-8 p.m. on Main Street from Oak Street to Chestnut street. That portion of Main Street is going to be closed to vehicles from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Businesses come from all over the community to pass out candy and have activities and games set up for eventgoers to enjoy.

“We have downtown businesses that participate and some are county officers, and all the businesses on Main Street. But a lot of people come out from elsewhere in the community, including insurance agents, and restaurants,” Reed said, and most of the businesses also come dressed up to pass out candy to the kids.

“We do this every year. We’ll decorate the street. We’ll have some inflatable things that we put in the area and we’ll put things in the trees. A lot of businesses will put things out that are spooky just to get in the mood and most people dress up, even the business people. Everyone just kind of goes all into it,” Reed said.

Reed said this even started long before she started her position in August 2022. It was seen as a way to get the family and the kids out to celebrate the holiday safely.

“We wanted something fun for the community and what better way to bring out the kids and the families to celebrate a nice night out. It’s wonderful and safe for the kids,” she said.
