A Lexington woman was arrested in Jessamine County for careless driving, among other charges, last weekend.

On Saturday, Aug. 19, a Nicholasville police officer observed Brenda Perez driving on U.S. 27, passing through the intersection on North Main Street.

According to the arrest citation, the officer said that Perez allegedly could not stay in her lane on the road and switched from driving far above and well below the posted speed limit.

Upon pulling Perez over, the officer said they viewed multiple open containers of alcohol in her vehicle, along with a strong odor of alcohol coming from the vehicle. She had bloodshot eyes and slurred speech. Perez was given a breathalyzer test, and her result was a blood-alcohol level of .151, much higher than the .08 state limit for drivers.

Perez was charged with careless driving, no operator’s license, possession of open alcohol containers in a motor vehicle and operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol.
