JCPL, Parks and Recreation to host Earth Day Celebration

Jessamine County Public Library (JCPL) and Nicholasville/Jessamine County Parks & Recreation are hosting an Earth Day Celebration on Saturday, April 22.

The celebration will take place at Riney B. Park, 300 Martin Luther King Boulevard in Nicholasville.

The all-day fun begins in the morning with two footraces presented by Nicholasville/Jessamine County Parks & Recreation in partnership with RaceRise.

Sign up for the Kids’ Little Footprint Dash (8:45 a.m.) and the Earth Day Dash 3K (9:00 a.m.) at www.runsignup.com/Race/KY/Nicholasville/EarthDayDash3K.

Booths from community organizations and vendors will open at 11:00 a.m.

Attendees are invited to meet animals available for adoption from Jessamine County Animal Care & Control, see live bugs at the University of Kentucky Department of Entomology’s booth, shop for beeswax products from local beekeeper Laura Sparkman and purchase food and drink from food trucks on-site.

Recycling & Safe Disposal

Attendees can take advantage of recycling and safe disposal opportunities.

Lexington Computer Recycling will be at the event accepting used computers, laptops, printers, and other equipment for residential use.

From 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., officers from the Nicholasville Police Department will be on-site to help safely dispose of prescription medications. Liquids and needles will not be accepted.

Free Concert

The afternoon culminates with live music from the popular Misty Mountain String Band.

Drawing influence from old-time music, Americana, and bluegrass, Misty Mountain String Band connects with fans of folk music around the world. Bring a lawn chair or blanket and enjoy the first concert of the season at Riney B. Park Amphitheater.
