Kentucky Career Center–Bluegrass Opens Access Point at Library

The Kentucky Career Center – Bluegrass and the Jessamine County Public Library in Nicholasville have been working closely to address the needs of job seekers in the area. Their partnership has culminated in the opening of an access point with virtual and in-person jobseeker services now available.

The Kentucky Career Center – Bluegrass kiosk system is located inside the library and provides access to services formally only available through their brick-n-mortar locations. In addition to the kiosk, a television will display employment and training opportunities, as well as other employment-related information.

This innovative new service is being done in addition to the regular visits staff have been making each month to meet one-on-one with visitors. For jobseekers who would like to access employment services, but do not want to wait for an in-person appointment to find a job, virtual meetings with career center staff are also available through webcams on the library computers. This service allows jobseekers to speak with a staff person in real time and begin developing a path to employment, eliminating the need to travel to another county for services.

Amy Glasscock, Director of Workforce for the Bluegrass Local Workforce Development Area, commented, “We are thrilled about this partnership. Many people utilize their local public library for their workforce needs and the Kentucky Career Center – Bluegrass are the experts on employment and the labor market in central Kentucky, so it’s a natural collaboration. We hope to continue this trend to other libraries in our area.”
