On November 8, 2021, our newest member of the Jessamine County Sheriff’s Office was sworn in by Judge-Executive David West. Macho is a three-year-old male Belgian Malinois. Deputy Gentry and Macho spent four weeks training in Georgia and became a certified K9 Team licensed through the DEA and ATF. Macho is a certified full-service patrol dog trained in bite, narcotic detection, and tracking. Macho’s tracking can assist in instances where a child is lost, to help apprehend a suspect, or help locate an unstable mental status individual.

Macho was acquired through a grant that was at no cost to the taxpayers of Jessamine County due to Deputy Gentry’s prior military service.

“The Jessamine County Drug Taskforce has already seized over $170,000 in 2021 as well as a street value of over $700,000 in narcotics. Having a K9 will enhance the ability of the narcotics unit to interdict drugs coming into our community.” -Sheriff Kevin Corman
