A beloved mother, sister, grandmother, and aunt, Shirley completed her work in this world Tuesday morning, October 26, 2021. She passed at home, surrounded by the family that loved her. Born August 17, 1945, Shirley was one of two daughters of the late Elmer and Ruby Peel. After graduation from Jessamine County High School, Shirley was employed by Barrett Midway in Wilmore, and by Lowenthals in Lexington. Shirley spent many years working for two generations of owners as a respected bookkeeper for the Central Ky News Distribution Company in Lexington, developing lifelong friendships that lasted to her final day. She later continued her clerical work for the Anderson News Company, and also at Paul Miller Ford until her retirement. What was true in her personal life, as well as in her professional career, Shirley was good with paperwork, was well-organized, and was a meticulous note-taker. Shirley enjoyed reading, jigsaw puzzles, needlework, listening to classic country music, and trying her luck at sweepstakes prizes. She also enjoyed the tradition of Monday pizza night. Shirley is survived by a son, Shannon Lanter, his wife Angela, and grandson Ethan. She is also survived by her sister and friend, Joyce Morris, Joyce’s husband Ron, and was more of a second mother than just an aunt to her two nephews, Clint Morris and Michael Montgomery. She is also survived by her beloved and dedicated friend and caregiver, Niki Goforth. Arrangements will be handled by Hager & Cundiff Funeral Home. Honoring Shirley’s wishes, there will be no service. This obituary was lovingly submitted by Shirley’s family. Hager & Cundiff values nothing more than the trust given to us to care for Shirley and her family. |
