For over fifty years 717 South Main Street has been home to Edgewood Baptist
Church. Since its founding in 1970, the church has sought to be a shining light of
God’s love and truth for Jessamine County and beyond. October 17 will mark the
beginning of a new era for the church as Steve Gray begins his tenure as the
congregation’s senior pastor.

Steve and his wife, Dee Ann, are making their return to ministry in the Bluegrass
after a decade of service in Hawaii. For the past ten years Steve served as the
pastor of the historic First Baptist Church of Wahiawa on the island of Oahu.
Ministry in this culturally diverse setting was marked by a strong emphasis on
moving the people out of the doors of the church and into its community.

Pastor Steve sees the church at its best when its members are seeking to reach out
beyond the walls of the church into the hearts and lives of their neighbors. In
Hawaii, this meant ministering in local apartment complexes, providing after-school snacks for youth and children, serving local foster families, and ministering to the international fishermen operating out of Honolulu Harbor.

Steve is looking forward to leading Edgewood Baptist Church as they explore and develop new
ways to serve Jessamine County. Gray stated, “The message of the church has
always been one of hope and love found in Jesus. Serving the community is a
great way to demonstrate hope and love in a way that honors God and helps the
church fulfill its purpose to reach out to others.”

One of the ways the Grays live out this desire to serve the community is through
Dee Ann’s service as a public-school teacher. Mrs. Gray is the new music teacher
at Red Oak Elementary School. The Grays love being involved in their
community and are looking forward to sharing life with their new friends and
neighbors throughout Nicholasville and the surrounding area.

Pastor Steve’s first Sunday to preach will be October 17. Morning worship begins
at 10:30 a.m. in the church’s sanctuary. The church extends its invitation to all of
Jessamine County to join in welcoming the Grays to Edgewood Baptist Church.
