Sara King, former user services librarian with 18 years of management experience at the Jessamine County Public Library, has become the library’s first assistant director.

This new role was created with continued library growth and productivity in mind. As a core member of the library’s administration, King will work with JCPL Executive Director Dr. Ron Critchfield to oversee and organize library staff and operations. Her promotion took effect May 3.

“Sara’s passion, creativity, and analytical skills will continue serving JCPL well — now in fresh and even more exciting ways — to provide the best library services to the community,” Critchfield said. “I am excited about the new possibilities on the horizon.”

In her tenure at JCPL, King has repeatedly shown creative, forward-thinking leadership and strategic problem-solving, said Sarah Choate, a spokesperson for the library. She has established outreach initiatives for teens and adults, overseen the library’s top-ranking programs, supervised customer service and reference staff, worked with library administration on strategic planning initiatives and more.

King holds a Master of Arts in information services management from the University of North London in the United Kingdom as well as a Master of Arts and Bachelor of Arts in English from Lund University in Sweden. King’s demonstrated expertise in library management, her collaborative leadership style and her commitment to providing excellent customer service to our community will serve JCPL well as she takes on this new role, Choate said.

Jessamine County Public Library’s mission is to enrich the community with ideas, information and cultural opportunities. JCPL is located at 600 S. Main St. in Nicholasville, Kentucky.
