As of Nov. 1, physical items on loan from Jessamine County Public Library will be renewed automatically.

At the most recent board meeting on Oct. 21, the library’s Board of Trustees voted to implement auto-renewals at JCPL. Their hope is that this new procedure would make it easier for library-goers to renew library materials while accruing fewer fines for late items.

“The Trustees believe the new auto-renewal procedures will have a positive impact on customers by saving them time and eliminating many of the fines that often occur between renewals,” said JCPL Executive Director Ron Critchfield. “The library is invested in serving Jessamine County to the best of our ability and that means we are constantly looking for ways to make library services and materials more accessible.”

Now that the new auto-renewal procedures are in place, items on loan will automatically be renewed for their original loan period and will continue to be auto-renewed until they have met their renewal limit. DVDs and Blu -ray discs will automatically be renewed on their due date and all other materials will automatically be renewed the day before they are due.

If a customer places a hold on an item that another customer has checked out, that item will not be auto-renewed. When it comes time to renew items, JCPL will alert customers via email as to whether their items on loan were successfully renewed and will provide the customer with due dates for their items. If an item does not auto-renew, it is because it has either reached its renewal limit or has been placed on hold by another customer.

JCPL customers should make sure they have a valid email address associated with their library account to ensure they receive auto-renewal notifications. To do so, customers may log-in to their JCPL account and update their contact information or they may contact the library’s customer service desk.
