A proposal that would raise Wilmore’s city water and sewer rates by 2 percent for the fiscal year 2020-2021 budget got its first reading during a City Council meeting Tuesday.
A second reading, scheduled for July 20, is required to enact the ordinance.
Also during the meeting, Police Chief Bill Craig was recognized for his 60 years of public service, in the military and law enforcement.
And there was a retirement reception for Clay Tankersley, owner of Clay’s Barber Shop, who sold his business and is closing his career after 64 years as a barber.
Tankersley’s wife, Jackie, was also thanked by Mayor Harold Rainwater for her 11 years of service as city clerk.
The property tax rate for 2020 was on the agenda, but the council took no action.
