East Jessamine High School track and field, qualified a total of 18 athletes for state at the Class 2A Region 5 track meet at Boyle County High School May 21.
The boys took third place and the girls took seventh place. Nine boys and nine girls qualified for Class 2A state meet that will be held Friday at the UK Track & Field Complex.
“We look forward to the state track meet. I know our seniors will continue to lead us as they have all year and we hope to add some more medal to what we got last year in the trophy hall,” says head coach Gene Cahill.
The top two finishers in each event automatically qualified for state. In addition, the state then qualifies the next 10 overall best times, heights and/or distances, etc., across the state in all events and those athletes also qualify.
Class 2A Region 5 is considered one of the top regions in the state. It is home to last years boys and girls 2A State Champions, Boyle County High School and the runner up State Champion for both 2A boys and girls, Mercer County High School.
