AdventureServe Ministries and the Wilmore Community Development Board are hosting an Arbor Day event from 12:40 to 2:30 p.m. on April 26th, 2019.
All fourth-grade classes from Wilmore Elementary will participate in environmentally-themed activities on AdventureServe’s property at 50 Campground Lane, which neighbors the school.
Over 100 students will rotate through three different stations designed to teach them about nature. This year’s stations will include: Wetlands led by “Swampy”; Trees, Water, and Wildlife led by Mike Floyd from Fish and Wildlife; and Fossils and Rocks led by Mark Reinhardt. The students will also help plant an Arbor Day tree on the campgrounds, and will learn how to plant the hazelnut shrubs they will be taking home.
AdventureServe Ministries Executive Director Andy Bathje looks at the Arbor Day event as an extension of the ministry’s desire to be a “park” to the community during daylight hours.
“We have trees on this property that are over 100 years old and we want to keep adding to that because the trees we have are markers for so many people’s memories on this property where God has ministered to them,”Bathje said.
