Merle Norman enjoys new location
After purchasing the Merle Norman store three-years ago, Traci Taylor moved to her new location off Quinn Drive and said the shops moto still rings true today – try before you buy.
“Merle Norman started this cosmetic and skin care line in 1931,” Taylor said. “Merle Norman said customers should ‘try before they buy,’ and that still stands today. Also, think of how many different businesses do before and after pictures. Merle Norman was the first. Merle Norman also pioneered the concept of free gift with purchase. Ultimately, she was one of the first to encourage women to have franchise businesses in their home towns and be independent business owners.”
Located at 115 Quinn Drive in Nicholasville, the shop is open 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday, 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Wednesday and Friday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. The shop is currently closed on Sunday and Monday.
A tried and true history, Taylor said the business has evolved over time and is no longer what some might consider, “your grandmother’s makeup.” The brand offers individualized skin care specific to various skin types and concerns. Taylor carries 12 different types of foundations, plus creams and tinted moisturizers.
“We have coverage types for all skin ages and types,” Taylor said. “We have bronzers, highlighters, six types of cheek colors, eight types of lip colors, five types of eyeliners, five types of brow care, seven types of mascara, four types of eyeshadows and primers. Merle Norman offers a full line of skin care including cleansers, toners, moisturizers, serums, exfoliators, body care and even a men’s skin care line.”
Taylor said the shops foundation primer with SPF 15 is a huge seller. Top selling foundations include cream to powder and an ultra-powder foundation. The brands latest anti-aging skin care line is also popular as it has anti-wrinkle ingredients with sunscreen for day ware and extra emollient ingredients for night time.
“My ownership of this Merle Norman studio has been less than three years,” Taylor said. “However, many of my customers have shopped this location for the entire 15 years this studio has been in business. Many customers currently in their 60s, 70s, and 80s have faithfully used Merle Norman since they were 16 years old. I love to hear those stories and see that they have beautiful skin today.”
Taylor said the shop also offers steam facials, free skin care and cosmetic application lessons, and samples of almost every product to take home and test.
“Previously, this studio only carried the Merle Norman cosmetic and skin care line with a few extras,” Taylor said. “I now offer clothing, jewelry, purses, bath bombs and some other fun items to meet the needs of the ladies in our community.”
