WASHINGTON – U.S. Rep. Brett Guthrie (KY-02) has been selected to serve on the House Committee on Education and Labor for the 116th Congress.
During his time serving on this committee, Guthrie has worked on a number of important issues impacting Kentucky families, including introducing legislation to assist student loan borrowers and to reauthorize the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
Last year, he launched the Congressional Apprenticeship Cau-cus with U.S. Rep. Susan Davis (D-CA) to explore ways Congress could help people find apprenticeships. They also introduced the APPRENTICE Act to support apprenticeship opportunities.
Guthrie will serve on the committee’s Higher Education and Workforce Development Subcommittee. He served as chairman of this subcommittee during the last Congress.
“I am proud to serve on the Education and Labor Committee, which deals with issues ranging from early childhood education to helping people find jobs,” Guthrie said. “One of my top priorities is helping Kentuckians learn the skills they need for the jobs available in our changing economy. I look forward to continuing my work to expand apprenticeship opportunities and to make college more affordable.”
Guthrie will also serve on the House Committee on Energy and Commerce this Congress. On that committee, he will serve as the top Republican on the Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations, and he will also sit on the Subcommittee on Consumer Protection and Commerce as well as the Subcommittee on Health.
