Proud of city employees

I am so proud of our Wilmore city employees.

The hot afternoon of July 4 was no picnic for Wilmore utility workers who put enormous effort into repairing a cracked section of a water main near Wesley Village.

Replacing a section of 12-inch water main is a difficult task under the best of circumstances but given the fact a shutoff valve didn’t operate the way it was supposed to, the men had to make the repair with a great deal of water volume flowing through the existing pipe under pressure.

Saws that would have cut right through a dead pipe barely worked in cutting a pipe that still had water running through it. At some point, the men were reduced to cutting parts of the main with handsaws.

It was after midnight when the pipe was finally repaired, and water service was restored.

During that time, everyone was working extremely hard and the teamwork they demonstrated was very effective in the successful completion of the job.

There are a lot of reasons to be proud of Wilmore, but today, I am most proud of our city employees who give us a quality of life to be envied.

As a used-to-be plumber, let me impart one piece of advice. If you find the water is off to your house understand unless you have another source of water, you have one flush per toilet. Use them wisely.
