Summer concert weekend in Wilmore

Wilmore’s summer concert weekend is scheduled for 7 p.m. this Friday and Saturday, June 22 through 23, on the Wilmore downtown green. Gospel on the Green on Friday will feature Jessamine Creek Express and Gone Fiddlin’ who will be playing bluegrass gospel. Stonebridge on Saturday will showcase the blues rock group, Lightnin’ Rod and the Thunderbolts, who have been nominated for several Josie Music Awards including Male Artist of the Year, Band of the Year, Song of the Year and Album of the Year. Food vendors will be on site, and both events are free, however donations of canned food for the pet shelter and local pantry are welcome.

Historical society holds monthly meeting

The Jessamine County Historical Society announced it will hold a monthly meeting at 7 p.m., Thursday, June 28 at 216 N. Main St. in the Farmer’s Bank Square. All members and those interested in membership are required to attend. As a reminder, the society would like to inform the community its doors will be open every Thursday from 1 to 3 p.m. for those interested in researching history and genealogy, or talking about subjects pertaining to Jessamine County history.

Public archaeological dig at Camp Nelson Heritage Park

Camp Nelson Heritage Park has scheduled an archaeological dig on the ground of the Civil War era supply depot and recruitment center available for two sessions, 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m., Saturday, June 16, July 14 and August 4. Camp Nelson is located at 6614 Danville Road. The dig will be led by Dr. Stephen McBride, director of interpretation. Adults and children are encouraged to participate, with children 5-years-old and under requiring an adult companion. Cost is $5 per person. America’s homecoming queen selection scheduled for Pigeon Forge

America’s 38th homecoming queen selection is scheduled for July 16 and 17 in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. Those who were selected as homecoming queen from 2017-18 and have not received their application are asked to call their high school or 901-755-9144. High school homecoming queens from 1981-2017 are invited to be a part of the celebration as well.
