Earlier this year, Jessamine Christian Church launched a new program offering residents a safe place for help with life’s struggles where they can receive Christ-centered recovery for their lives and families.
Started in 1991 through Saddleback Church, Celebrate Recovery is offered in 35,000 churches worldwide and has helped 5 million people to date find recovery by completing a step study leading its participants through eight principals and 12 Christ-centered steps.
“Having been in recovery myself for nearly six years, I know how important this program is to me and how much it has helped me personally,” Brian Spears of Jessamine Christian Church said. “I am thankful to God for bringing this program into my life and for His guidance in helping me lead the wonderful team of leaders and co-leaders that He has blessed me with.”
The program is offered at 7 p.m. Tuesday evenings at the church, located at 130 Courchelle Drive.
Spears said programs like Celebrate Recovery are indispensable in Jessamine County as true recovery begins when people start to look inward. Those who participate in the program learn how to do so by working through the eight principals, he said.
The church also partners with the Jessamine and Garrard Adult Drug Court Program which assists in making Celebrate Recovery meetings an available resource for those in need.
Spears said Patty Rhorer, program supervisor for the Jessamine and Garrard Adult Drug Court Program, has been helpful in collaborating to help achieve the goals of the program.
“It is a common misconception that Celebrate Recovery is just another recovery program for people struggling with alcohol and drug addiction,” Spears said. “Celebrate Recovery’s goal is to provide a safe place for Christ-centered recovery to anyone struggling with a hurt, habit, or hang-up including, but not limited to, co-dependency, eating disorders, grief, sex addiction/pornography, gambling, depression, divorce, and many other issues.”
Spears said the program has evolved over time, and has branched off forming other ministries which include Broken Chains, for bikers and motorcycle enthusiasts; Celebration Place, for children ages 5-13; The Landing, for junior high and high school students; Celebrate Recovery Inside, for prison and jail inmates; International Celebrate Recovery, establishing ministries across the globe; Welcome Home, a group for veterans; Mental Health Initiative, a safe and supportive environment for open discussion; Celebrate Recovery for Pastors, a safe haven for pastors to experience the healing power of Jesus Christ and Native Nations, bringing the gospel to over 500 sovereign people in the United States.
“Our hope for those who attend is that they will feel that Celebrate Recovery at Jessamine Christian Church is a safe place for them to find recovery and they will keep coming back each week to experience true Christ-centered recovery and freedom from life’s hurts, habits and hang-ups,” Spears said.
