Local youth wins state weightlifting championship
Sets three new records qualifying for nationals in June

Homeschooler Avery Johnson won the 53kg weight youth division in the 2018 Kentucky State Weightlifting Championship in Louisville Saturday, breaking all three state records and qualifying for nationals scheduled to take place June 14 -17 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Johnson lifted 55 kilos in snatch, with the previous record set at 37. She lifted 60 kilos in clean and jerk, with a previous record of 52, and lifted a total of 115 kilos overall breaking the previous record of 89. Johnson is coached by Aaron Hopper.
