Michael Garrett announced his candidacy for Nicholasville City Commissioner.

Garrett and his wife have been together since the age of 16. Together they have three children, Allison, Jackson and Mason. Currently serving in the role as lieutenant for the Jessamine County Fire Department, Garrett is also a full time firefighter with the Lexington Fire Department. He is a certified fire instructor, rescue technician, hazmat specialist and registered as an EMT both with the state and nationally.

“My commissioner’s campaign is focused on bringing back an old school mentality of common sense approaches to real issues, while improving both transparency and communications,” Garrett said. “I want to work as hard for my city as I do in my career, and my desire to serve has led me here. I have clear and concise plans dealing with infrastructure, growth and development and public safety which are much needed in this fast paced and fast growing city.”

Garrett said he sees it as his responsibility to ensure the safety of every citizen in the city for years to come by meeting and understanding specific needs. Garrett said aside from public safety, he wants to ensure strong infrastructure.

“We must take into considerations the ramifications of our decisions as commissioners,” Garrett said. “Traffic, road wear, utility issues and budget restrictions must all be taken into account at all times. We must focus on rejuvenating downtown businesses, lowering insurance premiums for both homeowners and businesses and bringing in positive revenue.”

Garrett said he also feels the community must help nonprofit organizations in meeting the needs of each citizen and understanding that a balanced budget is necessary.

“I wont be utilizing expensive yard signs. Instead, I will continue sharing ideas through my Facebook campaign page and plan to shake every citizens hand and ask for your vote.”
