Girls Who Code Club
Thursday, Feb. 22
5 – 6:30 p.m.
This is a 10-week series. Sisterhood, Code, and Impact: Club girls join a safe and supportive environment of peers and role models and learn to see themselves as computer scientists. Use computer science to solve problems in your community. Learn the concepts of loops, variables, conditionals, ands functions that form the basis for all programming languages (build a website, an app, or a robot) and interest such as music, art, game design, and storytelling. Returning club girls can deepen their programming knowledge through extended activity sets. Work in teams to design and build a Computer Science “CS” Impact Project that solves real world problems through code. 6th-12th grade. Registration is required.
Pound Exercise Class

Pound is a jam session / cardio workout inspired by the infectious, energizing fun of playing the drums. Fitness instructor Chris Chandler will lead the classes. All equipment is provided. Please register.
Light and Sound for Everyone
Thursday, Feb. 22
7 – 8 p.m.
Are you ready for a little quantum physics? Kwok-Wai Ng, Professor of Physics from the University of Kentucky, will teach the physics behind color, sound, radio, and photovoltaics. A physics petting zoo will also be available with optic toys and demonstrations. Registration is preferred. Walk-ins are also welcomed.
Jump & Jive

Join with us as we sing and dance to your favorite storytime songs and rhymes. This high-energy program is specifically geared for kids 0-5 years of age.
Families will have fun together as they enjoy age-appropriate songs, rhymes and fingerplays. This is a great time for the whole family to learn their child’s favorite storytime rhymes and songs.

Family Book Club Wrap Up Party

Members of the Family Book Club which began in January will enjoy a special wrap up party to celebrate finishing reading Mary Norton’s, The Borrowers. Families will use everyday objects to create their own miniature worlds like that of the Borrowers. All supplies will be provided. Registration is required and can be done by calling the children’s desk at 859-885-3523 ext. 227.
Bright Star Children’s Theater

Celebrate Black History month with a performance of “Black History Hall of Fame” by Bright Star Touring Theatre. This fast-paced adventure featuring hall-of-famers who have shaped our nation’s past, present, and future! In just 45 minutes you will see everyone from Maya Angelou and Aretha Franklin to the Buffalo Soldiers and Mae Jemison – and that’s just to name a few! Young audience volunteers and incredibly talented performers bring this show to life in every way.
AARP Tax-Aide

Get help doing your taxes with the AARP Tax-Aide program. IRS trained and certified volunteers will be available to assist low-to-moderate income taxpayers, especially those 60 and older, prepare their tax return and answer tax related questions. Those wishing assistance MUST bring Social Security cards and photo identification for themselves and their dependents. In addition, all forms related to income and deductions such as W-2, health insurance, unemployment compensation statements, all 1099 forms, child care information, receipts or canceled checks if itemizing deductions, and any other relevant information should be brought. A copy of last year’s return is also helpful and may be required in some instances. Please arrive before 11:30 on each day of service. No registration is required. Questions may be directed to the tax-aide foundation at 1-888-227-7669.

Exercise With Ease

If you want to exercise, but need to start slowly, this is the perfect class for you. We can help you get moving gently so you can avoid exacerbating injuries or existing conditions. These exercises can be adapted to fit nearly any physical impediment. Trained instructor, Paula Hutchens will be your guide to exercising with ease. No need to register.
Garage Band: Audio Editing I

Explore the basics audio recording and editing with GarageBand. You will learn how to add new tracks by selecting software instruments, vocal, electric guitar, or Drummer tracks. You will also learn how to add loops and use smart controls. Bring a USB to save your project.
JCPL Book Club: Sing, Unburied, Sing

Audio Recording II: Microphones

Explore the basics of sound engineering and podcasting. You will learn how to digitally edit using popular audio workstations, optimal microphone selection and setup, and digital audio plug-ins. Bring a USB to save your project.
Teen Jeopardy

Teens in grades 6-12 are welcome to participate in a trivia competition for prizes. Use what you learned at each month’s Teen Trivia programs (Mondays at 6:00 p.m.) to answer Jeopardy-style questions. Registration is required.
Family Storytime

This storytime is designed for families with children 0-5 years old. Family storytime is designed to provide parents/caregivers and children time to enjoy books and reading together while incorporating early literacy and school readiness activities. Adults and children will spend quality time together as they enjoy stories, lap songs, fingerplays, singing and dancing. Each session includes 25-30 minutes of group interaction followed by an opportunity for parents and children to play, talk and read together. Participation is encouraged as we explore language and movement in a group setting. No registration is required for this program, so please attend as often as you are able.
JCPL Jeopardy

Have you ever wanted to be a contestant on Jeopardy? Here’s your chance to practice! JCPL Jeopardy will be (almost) like a live version of the real game show, with just a few differences: We will have three new contestants at every round. A round will consist of clearing one board of questions. Categories will remain the same throughout the evening. There will be no deduction of points for wrong answers…
PreSchool Storytime

This storytime is designed for families with children 3-5 years old. With an early literacy and school readiness focus, group time includes 25-30 minutes of outstanding stories, poetry, fingerplays, singing and dancing. It wraps up with time for adults and children to interact with a story one-on-one. Participants can then enjoy an additional 10-15 minutes of an age-appropriate art project, physical activity or dramatic play. No registration is required for this program, so please attend as often as you are able.
