Hattie C. Warner Elementary art teacher Miles Johnson recently delivered three Warner scarecrows to the University of Kentucky Arboretum. The colorful trio will be on display throughout the month of October as part of the scarecrow exhibit.
The stuffed fellow with the blue head was created by Mrs. Black and Mrs. Ardery’s reading group, the orange-eyed hombre comes courtesy of the after school group. Their partner, donning the cowboy hat, is the creation of the art class.
Johnson said the scarecrows were a five-day project for first through fifth-graders at Warner Elementary. The clothing and bags used to stuff the scarecrows were donated by families.
Johnson said that the project was a lot of fun, but a lot of work.
“Kids enjoy it and adults enjoy it,” Johnson said. “And they are always a big topic of discussion in class. It pulls the school, staff and families together.”
