Lunch and Learn – Boost Your Memory

Turn the library into your gym for the brain! We’ll explore tools to help you improve memory and brain function, including BrainHQ, Lynda.com, and Transparent Language Online. We’ll also look at other library and online resources that can help boost your brain health.

Intro to the JCPL Creative Space

Thursday, Sept. 21 2017 6:00 – 6:45 p.m.

During this class, attendees will learn about JCPL’s Creative Space. Policies and procedures of the space will be covered as well as a brief introduction to software used to with the 3D printers and laser cutter. At the end of class, attendees will be given the opportunity to agree to the written policy for use of the Creative Space (juveniles must have a parent or guardian attend with them and sign the agreement) and schedule a time for the second part of the Creative Space training. Pound Exercise Class

Thursday, Sept. 21, 2017 6:30 – 7:30 p.m.

Pound is a jam session / cardio workout inspired by the infectious, energizing fun of playing the drums. Fitness instructor Chris Chandler will lead the classes. All equipment is provided. Please register.

Jump & Jive

Friday, Sept. 22, 2017 10:30 – 11 a.m.

Join with us as we sing and dance to your favorite storytime songs and rhymes. This high-energy program is specifically geared for kids 0-5 years of age. Families will have fun together as they enjoy age-appropriate songs, rhymes and fingerplays. This is a great time for the whole family to learn their child’s favorite storytime rhymes and songs.

Oil Painting Class: Part 1

Saturday, Sept. 23, 2017 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Whether this is your first exposure to oil painting or you are an experienced painter, you are welcome to join artist Nancy Wells for this introductory class. During the two sessions, she will cover the basic steps to an oil painting from beginning to end. Each student will have the opportunity to complete a 9” x 12” painting.

Jessamine Movie Spectacular: Lego Batman

Saturday, Sept. 23, 2017 7:30 p.m. – 11 p.m. at City County Park

Come on out for family fun! This FREE community event features inflatables, face painting, hot dogs and much more. There will also be a big-screen showing of the Lego Batman movie! Don’t forget to bring a camping chair or picnic blanket.

iMovie Basics

Explore the basics of creating your own video project in iMovie using photos, video clips, and music. You will be able to edit by adding titles to your project, backgrounds, video effects and transitions.

Test Your Brain with BrainHQ

In this hands-on class, we’ll get you started with BrainHQ™, so you can begin charting your progress and seeing results. Must have basic computer skills and be comfortable with a mouse and keyboard.

Family Storytime

Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2017 7 p.m. – 7:45 p.m.

This storytime is designed for families with children 0-5 years old. Family storytime is designed to provide parents/caregivers and children time to enjoy books and reading together while incorporating early literacy and school readiness activities.  Adults and children will spend quality time together as they enjoy stories, lap songs, fingerplays, singing and dancing.  Each session includes 25-30 minutes of group interaction followed by an opportunity for parents and children to play, talk and read together. JCPL Jeopardy

Have you ever wanted to be a contestant on Jeopardy? Here’s your chance to practice! JCPL Jeopardy will be (almost) like a live version of the real game show, with just a few differences: we will have three new contestants at every round, a round will consist of clearing one board of questions and categories will remain the same throughout the evening.

Preschool Storytime

This storytime is designed for families with children 3-5 years old. With an early literacy and school readiness focus, group time includes 25-30 minutes of outstanding stories, poetry, fingerplays, singing and dancing.  It wraps up with time for adults and children to interact with a story one-on-one.  Participants can then enjoy an additional 10-15 minutes of an age-appropriate art project, physical activity or dramatic play. No registration is required for this program, so please attend as often as you are able.

Books & Bites

Exercise With Ease

If you want to exercise, but need to start slowly, this is the perfect class for you. We can help you get moving gently so you can avoid exacerbating injuries or existing conditions. Transportation Policy Committee

Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2017 1:30 p.m. – 3 p.m.

The MPO’s Transportation Policy Committee (TPC) consists of representatives from local, state and federal governments, transit agencies, transportation providers and other stakeholders. The TPC adopts regional transportation goals and a long-range Metropolitan Transportation Plan. The TPC approves and programs federal funds for roadways.
