After a three-week postponement courtesy of Hurricane Harvey’s excessive northern reach, gates will finally open for the first-ever All-American Burger Bash at the City County Park this Friday and Saturday.
Admission and parking for the event will be free for everyone.
The Bash, designed to replace the former Jessamine Jamboree community celebration, will begin at 5 p.m. on Saturday evening. At 6:30 p.m., the Jessamine Life Talent Showcase will begin at the pavilion. At 7 p.m., area band Off The Clock will perform at the Burdine Arena. At dusk, the evening will cap off with a balloon glow event in the back field.
Saturday’s activities will begin at 11 a.m. with inflatables, a dunking booth and a petting zoo for the children. Kid contests will begin at 2 p.m. Signs noting specific location will be posted at the fairgrounds.
The main event of the weekend will commence at 3:30 p.m., when area grill masters will fire up their grills to compete for the title of Best Burger Around. At 4 p.m., judges will sample each grilled delicacy, and announce their final determination at 5 p.m. The grillmaster with the tastiest, juiciest and most mouth-watering burger of the bunch will win $250 and a trophy. The second-place finisher will be awarded $100 and a trophy, and the third-place finalist will leave the fairgrounds $50 richer and a trophy to boot as well.
The event will continue with a pet costume contest will begin at 5 p.m. at the pavilion, and a performance by The DistraXions at the Burdine Arena at 8 p.m.
The Lego Batman movie will begin at dusk, and the entire event will close out with a fireworks display following the film.
In addition to the free fun activities, an expansive array of food and craft vendors will be set up throughout the event.
