According to the Jessamine County Coroner’s Office, 55-year-old John Collins of Nicholasville was killed shortly after noon on Sunday when his hang glider crashed near Rosenwald Dunbar Elementary School.

The accident occurred when the ultralight trike motorized glider that Collins was flying crashed into a dumpster at the rear of the school.

According to reports, the accident is believed to be the result of an effort by Collins to make an emergency landing, and not mechanical malfunction.
