June 2017 will kick off with the second 2017 gallery walk in downtown Nicholasville. This event, sponsored by the Creative Art League of Jessamine County, will take place June 9 from 5 to 8 p.m. Featured will be the photography work of Gregory Davis in the exhibit “Impermanence of Knowledge,”  located in the Polvino Family Art Center at 109 S. Main Street in downtown Nicholasville. Davis, a Jessamine Countian, earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts, Art Studio degree from the University of Kentucky and his Master of Fine Arts, Photography from the Savannah College of Art and Design. He has exhibited extensively throughout the United States as well as in the United Kingdom. Davis’ photographs are extremely well-executed and thought-provoking. This work will be on display the entire month of June, but the opening reception will coincide with the gallery walk on June 9. The gallery walk will also feature an exhibit of the fiber art of Karen Million, and work in various mediums by Bill Jones. There will also be sidewalk demonstrations of artists at work and door prizes. This will be a great time to be downtown.

It is not too early to begin organizing your corporate teams for the upcoming Second Annual Race for the Arts which has both a 5k run and a Fun Walk/Run component. This race, which has a course through Nicholasville, will take place late afternoon on September 30th. The race will end with food, music and prize awards in the downtown area. Each racer will receive a signed, numbered limited edition print of an original race-related painting commissioned by the Creative Art League especially for this event. There will also be prizes for the largest corporate team, fastest team time overall, and best corporate T-shirt design. These prizes will be in addition to the individual prizes for overall placement and prizes by age group. For information, email CALJessamine@gmail.com.

The Creative Adventure Camp, for kids ages 6-11, is still accepting applications for its week-long adventure. This day camp will take place June 26-30 at the Polvino Family Art Center. It will be taught by two of our county certified art teachers. Activities will include cooking, painting, crafts, exploration and other fun things to keep your young artist engaged and interested.
