The Valley View Ferry that has shuttled vehicles across the Kentucky River between Madison and Jessamine Counties since 1785 is back open after being closed due to icy ramps.
When the ferry is not operating, the suggested alternate route between Nicholasville and Richmond is US-27S to Lancaster in Garrard County, then KY-52E to Richmond.
The suggested alternate route between Lexington and Richmond is I-75.
The operating status of the ferry can be checked by calling the Madison County hotline at 859-624-4748.
The Valley View Ferry is regularly open 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, and it is closed on Christmas Day.
The Valley View Ferry — a free service to the public — is located on the Kentucky River at Tates Creek Rd (KY-169) at the Fayette, Jessamine and Madison County line.
