Julia Jay Hensley, 90,  of Berea, died Wednesday Dec. 21, 2016 at the Compassionate Care Center in Richmond, KY. Jay was a writer, editor, photojournalist and publisher of a national trade magazine for chimney sweeps. She loved books, horses and people and was a life-long Unitarian church member. She was born in Binghamton, NY to the late Reverend John Paul and Helen Reed Jones. She grew up in Brooklyn, NY and Ashfield, MA. Jay was married to Dr. Robert Hensley of Nicholasville and moved to central KY in 1954. A beloved mother and grandmother, she was preceded in death by a son, Scotty, and is survived by her children Douglas Hensley, Jennifer (David) Zurick, Lisa (Tommy Lee) Rector, Joel Hensley and Tim Hensley (Jane Post); and a brother Phillips Jones. She is survived by 9 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Dec. 31 at the Unitarian Universalist Church, 1081 Willis Branch Rd., Richmond.
