Constance Grayson | New Year offers new creative opportunities

Published 4:58 pm Tuesday, December 27, 2016

The New Year is here, and there are a number of new art activities going on throughout the county.

The art year kicks off with the Creative Art League’s exhibit “We Teach—We Create”, an exhibit of work by art teachers from around the Commonwealth. We often forget that our art teachers are first of all artists. This exhibit is designed to give art educators an opportunity to exhibit their work, and for our community to be able to view up-close-and-personal, the artistic pieces created by art educators. The exhibit will be on display Jan. 13 through Jan. 31 at the Polvino Family Art Center, 109 S. Main in downtown Nicholasville. The opening reception for the exhibit will be from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 13 at the Polvino Family Art Center.

The Creative Art League’s Visual Arts Association — the organization devoted to visual artists and those who would like to be — is changing the format of its meetings. Once a quarter, the group will meet at 7 p.m. on the second Thursday of each month, as was done in the past.

The second and third months of the quarter will see a changed format. The group will meet on the second Saturday of the month and will paint and create together. They will explore various art techniques and mediums. If you are interested in joining this group, please feel free to attend the regular meeting at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 12 at the Polvino Family Art Center located at 109 S. Main in Nicholasville. At that meeting, you will be given all the details about how you can become involved in the Saturday Paint-Ins. For information, email CALJessamine@gmail.com.

“Eat with Art” is a new program of the Creative Art League. This program is designed to provide a meeting space for clubs, organizations and boards to enjoy our exhibit, as part of their regularly scheduled meeting. A member of the Creative Art League will be on hand to describe the exhibit and answer questions. This meeting can be tailored to the needs of your group. CAL can provide a meal, light refreshments or a “make and take” craft project to enhance this experience. For information on how your group may participate, email CALJessamine@gmail.com or call Constance at 859-885-5536.

The Creative Art League is in growth mode for 2017. The League will be expanding programming, launching a new website and inducting a new board of directors.

To keep up with the new and expanded activities of this group, like “Creative Art League of Jessamine County” on Facebook, or send an email to CALJessamine@gmail.com to be placed on our email list.
