Losing weight, being more organized, quitting a vice and spending less money — these are all great New Years resolutions. But what if I told you they mean nothing, and they are selfish? 

The world goes round day in and day out. People die, children are born with illnesses and crimes are committed. But the world would be a better place if we decided to drop the cliche New Years resolutions and focus on other people. 

Choose resolutions that better your community, that better your family and — most importantly — better the less fortunate.

If everyone chose a resolution that would improve mankind as a whole, we would all be in a better place. 

Yes, resolutions don’t always last, but even if one action such as volunteer work was taken throughout the 365 days of 2017, then Jessamine County — or even the world — would be a better place.
