One local business is celebrating its 10 year anniversary by giving back to the community.
State Farm, located in Orchard Shopping Center in Nicholasville, will be celebrating its 10th year of business by taking donations for the Jessamine County Food Pantry and by hosting a “Good Neighbor Challenge.”
The goal for the business was to fill 10 barrels for the food pantry to match their 10 years of business in Jessamine County. This is the first time the business has held a food drive.
“We have been taking donations all month long and will continue to until October 31,” said Randall Chewing, agent at State Farm. “So far at the end of this week we will have three barrels full.”
Chewning wanted to remind the community that the food pantry is constantly helping people, it’s not just for the holidays.
“The pantry has a never ending demand,” Chewning said. “I chose to use the anniversary of our business as an opportunity to help our neighbors in Jessamine County.”
The business is collecting box items and the most needed item at the pantry, soup cans, Chewning said.
“We might not get our 10 barrels, but we have had a good time promoting it,” Chewning said. “I knew 10 barrels of food was pretty aggressive, but I just went with it.”
Those interested in dropping off items at State Farm at 131 Orchard Drive in Nicholasville can do so between the hours of 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. until Monday, Oct. 31.
“We have been blessed with our business and I just hope to be a blessing to some of the community members,” Chewning said.
