One business is doing its part to help those impacted by the most recent natural disaster in and around Florida.

Strong Shop Fitness, on the Jessamine and Fayette County line, started collecting donations for Hurricane Matthew victims on October 7.

“We started to take collections here (at the gym) an word started getting out,” Kasi Sato, co-owner of the gym said. “Then the donations started to pile in.”

The contributions ranged from packages of water bottles, to peanut butter and canned food.

The owners of the gym, Kasi and her husband Josh Sato, started collecting donations because they have friends in Jacksonville, Florida this gave them some insight as to what was happening in the area.

“We knew we would have someone to get the supplies there,” Kasi said. “We knew how bad the situation was with our friends in Jacksonville, and we just wanted to help.”

Kasi said there is a huge population that is on water boil, and the main supplies needed are water bottles.

A U-Haul carrying all the donations gathered at Strong Shop Fitness, left to deliver the supplies to Jacksonville and other surrounding areas on Oct. 14.
