Hubert Edward Cantrell, affectionately known as “Hugh”, age 87, passed away on Tuesday February 25, 2025 in Hospice Care in Cape Coral, Florida. Hugh enjoyed a successful and blessed life as the founder and CEO of the National Softball Association and Baseball Players Association. Hugh was known for his generosity, kindness and unwavering love for others. Hugh touched countless lives throughout the USA and will be greatly missed. Born August 14, 1937 in Johnson County, Kentucky Hugh was the son of the late Loman and Lizzie Cantrell. Hugh is survived by his beloved wife Faye of 44 years, his son Eddie Ray/ Paula his grandsons Coty/Chelsea, Jesse/Courtney and great grandson Raylan all of Lancaster, Kentucky. Hugh is survived by his brother Loman “Doc” Cantrell, sisters Jane Stapleton and Ellen Cantrell all of Franklin, Ohio. Hugh was preceded in death by his parents and his precious daughter, Susan Renee Cantrell, brothers Bill, Arthur, Ted and Orville and sisters Peggy Cantrell and Frances McKenzie. Hugh leaves behind a large extended family including numerous nieces, nephews and dear friends across the USA. A 1957 graduate of Flat Gap High School, Flat Gap, KY and attended Lees College in Jackson, KY on a basketball scholarship. Funeral Services will be at Clark Legacy Center, Brannon Crossing, Nicholasville, KY. Visitation will be Friday, March 14 from 4 to 7 PM and on Saturday March 15 from 10 AM until the time of services at 2:00 PM. Cremation after services.
