George W. Nolte, 80: It is with equal parts sadness and appreciation for a life well lived that we announce the passing of George W. Nolte of Nicholasville, KY on February 15, 2025. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Margaret, his two daughters, Jolene Harding of Lexington, KY and Ellen Hunley of Saint Augustine, FL, his two grandchildren, Allison Harding and Evan Hunley, and his slightly cantankerous cat Dudley. He was born in Cedar Rapids, IA on June 9,1944 to the late William and Louise Nolte and raised on a farm near Independence, IA, with his dogs and never a shortage of things to do. It was on the farm that George developed a lifelong love of tractors. After graduating from Upper Iowa University in 1967, his passion for machinery led him to a 30+ year career with Link-Belt Cranes. Over the years, his career led him to travel around the world, from Alaska to Canada to Japan. His career also relocated George and family from Cedar Rapids, IA to Apple Valley, MN, back to Cedar Rapids, IA, and then to Nicholasville, KY. In his retirement, he enjoyed tinkering with antique tractors and taking them to parades, spending time with his grandchildren, hanging out by a bonfire, and getting clawed by his cat. He enjoyed a good joke, had an infectious laugh, and found pleasure in good food and the company of others. He was a member of St. Luke Catholic Church in Nicholasville, KY. A rosary service will be held 12 PM Thursday, February 20, 2025, at Clark Legacy Center- Brannon Crossing followed by a visitation until 3 PM. Per George’s wishes, he chose to be cremated, and a graveside service will be held in Independence, IA at a future date. clarklegacycenter.com
