Doryce Wells Wise, widow of David Wise since 1997, joined him in eternal rest on Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2024. She was born in Jessamine County on Feb. 27, 1933 to the late Launey Townsend and Ural Blakeman Wells. Doryce was a 1951 graduate of Nicholasville High School, and in 1952 she married David Owen Wise, who was in the US Air Force and was stationed at Wright Patterson in Ohio. They later went to Fairbanks, Alaska where Doryce was a charter member of the Methodist Church in Fairbanks. In 1956 she became a member of the Nicholasville Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School and was a member of the women’s group. She was Chairman of the Jessamine County Arthritis Association for 13 years. She dearly loved animals and at one time had 12 cats and a dog on her farm. She spent her free time coloring, doing cross stitch, embroidering and sending out many Birthday and Christmas Cards. In addition, she loved keeping house, farming, bookkeeping, being a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She leaves precious memories with her son Neville Townsend, wife Teresa, grandson Justin David, wife Erica, granddaughter Jessica LeAnne Wise, and great-granddaughter Lacey Lynn Wise, niece April Wells Sallee, and nephew Kevin Thomas Wells, as well as many other extended family members and friends. Doryce was preceded in death by her twin sister Joyce Withers, brother W.D. Wells, sister Anna Katherine Allison, nephews W.D. Wells, Jr. and Steven Wells Withers, and niece Sharon Allison Reynolds. A Service of Remembrance was held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, Feb. 24, at Hager Cundiff Funeral Home, and Doryce was laid to rest beside her beloved husband in Maple Grove Cemetery. Honoring her as pallbearers were Gerald Cobb, Bruce Smith, Chad Moody, Doug Marshall, Allan Blakeman, and Tommy Orme. Honorary pallbearers were Dr. Curtis Absher, Bill Barker, April Sallee, Kevin Wells, Bobby Riddle, Kevin Riddle, Charles Blakeman, Bill Beach, Dottie Cobb, Adeline Muir, Sandy Welch, Barry Welch, Marilyn Hukill, Mary Kay Weymouth, Sue Castano, Mary Orme, Shirley Boyd, Brenda Cobb, Ruth Mary McMurtry, Lynn Lawson, and Linda Johnson. The family greeted friends from 5:00-8:00 PM at the funeral home. The family suggests donations be made in Doryce’s memory to the Nicholasville Methodist Church. “It’s in the quiet I will miss you the most, when my mind has the chance to wander and my heart has a moment to remember.” Hager & Cundiff values nothing more than the trust and loyalty given to us to care for the Wise family.
