Softball celebrated three seniors while track and field added more national qualifiers and baseball took its winning streak to 12. This is the week that was for Asbury Athletics.

Men’s and Women’s Tennis

April 11: The Asbury men’s and women’s tennis teams traveled to Ohio to take on Cedarville University. The men’s team managed to shut out Cedarville 7-0, but the women’s team, unable to find their footing, fell 0-7. The men sit at an impressive 9-3 season record.

April 15: The Asbury women’s tennis faced Earlham College on Saturday afternoon in Lexington, taking a decisive 7-2 win to move to 4-5 on the year.

Softball

April 11: Asbury softball celebrated three seniors on Tuesday night in Wilmore: Abigail Fletcher, Olivia Palasek and Olivia Judy. Judy’s two-hits and a complete game, four-hit shutout from sophomore Josie Deatherage led Asbury to a 3-0 game one win. Shawnee State took game two, splitting the doubleheader.

April 12: AU matched up with Kentucky State in Frankfort on Wednesday in a split doubleheader. Asbury took game one 2-1 behind junior captain Taylor Enlow recording a career-high ten strikeouts. Kentucky State took the second game, 9-8, but senior captain Abigail Fletcher recorded her first career home run and a double.

April 17: Asbury could not secure the win in Crestview Hills against Thomas Moore. The hosts closed out the first game with a final score of 7-6 and the second 8-0. AU was led by Olivia Judy, Taylor Enlow, and Taylor Sanders combined for nine hits, four runs, and three RBIs. The Eagle offense did see 12 hits on the day with six runs and four stolen bases.

Men’s Golf

April 15-16: Last weekend, Asbury traveled to Louisville to compete in the Spalding Spring Invite at the Oxmoor Country Club. Senior Juan Valdivieso completed his last career tournament for the Eagles, sophomore Garret Sturges finished top 20, and freshman João Costa led AU with a top-five finish.

Baseball

April 11: The Eagles snatched yet another win on Tuesday night in Berea, continuing their 12-game winning streak. Asbury’s defense made light work of the Mountaineers, with no errors and right-handed pitcher David Savastio striking out eight of their hitters. AU takes the 18-8 win and moves to an 18-10 season.

April 15-16: Asbury took their first loss since March 17 this past Saturday against Wright State Lake Campus. The day’s first game ended in a 4-0 shutout for WSU, and they captured the second 6-3. With the losses, Asbury moved 18-12 on the season.

Asbury refused a loss on Sunday against Wright State with seven runs in the final three innings and nine strikeouts from Eli Wilder. The Eagles secured their 19th win of the season.

Men’s and Women’s Track & Field

April 14: Asbury once again found success on Saturday in Danville. The men’s team finished sixth of 16, their highest of the season, and the women’s team took 13th of 15. The men’s 4 x 800 relay team (Samuel Webb, Wes Preston, Luke Holton, and Davis Brown) qualified for the National Christian College Athletics Association Nationals. Additional nationals qualifiers were Luke Wheatley and Davis Brown (Men’s 800), Wes Preston and Will Durrance (Men’s 5000 Meter), and Mary Hostetter (Women’s 200).
