Jessica Bowers has been named the second annual Tom and Jan Harper Volunteer of the Year by the Community Service Center of Wilmore-High Bridge. Executive Director Koby Miller presented the award at the Volunteer Appreciation Dinner held on March 9. The award was established after the retirement of the Harpers when the center’s board of directors honored their service to the center by naming the annual award after them.

The award is given for extraordinary service by a volunteer.

Bowers has been volunteering at the center since 2020 and previously served as a shift manager.

The Community Service Center of Wilmore-High Bridge was incorporated in 1981. Since then, it has been serving people in the 40390 zip code by helping provide funds for rent and utilities, offering weekly food bank groceries, and connecting clients with other social service agencies. Sales from its thrift store are invested right back into the community to help families facing difficult circumstances.

The center is housed in the basement of the Wilmore United Methodist Church, located at 209 East Main Street.
