News Release

The Jessamine County Sheriff’s Department has received grants from the Kentucky Office of Homeland Security through the Law Enforcement Protection Program. The Law Enforcement Protection Program allows the Kentucky Office of Homeland Security to provide funds to purchase duty equipment for law enforcement agencies in the Bluegrass State.

Funding for the Law Enforcement Protection Program does not come from taxpayer dollars. Instead, it is derived from the sale of confiscated firearms turned over to the Kentucky State Police from agencies around the state that are then sold at a public auction to federally licensed firearms dealers. The Jessamine County Sheriff’s Department was awarded two grants. The grants, totaling $60,980.00, are for the purchase of protective and duty equipment so that the Jessamine County Sheriff’s Deputies can “better serve and protect the citizens and visitors of the county.”

“The individuals who serve and protect our county as members of our Sheriff’s Department face significant challenges during the course of their careers, and it is vital that they have available to them the very best in protective equipment,” said Judge-Executive David West. “Thank you to our Sheriff’s Department for seeking resources to better equip their team with the critical tools they need for safety.”
